Mmmm..Orange & Poppy Seed Cake, Blueberry Swirl Cheesecake..and more!



Had some fun..or stress.. baking last night some sample cakes for a cafe.
Made an Orange & Poppy seed Cake, Blueberry Swirl Cheesecake, Lemon Tarts, Pear & Almond Tarts, Chocolate & Hazelnut Tarts & Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.
They all looked &
smelt great & the kids have already had samples of the extras this morning.

Thought I'd share the Orange & Poppy Seed Cake recipe as it's quite a yummy one.

Orange & Poppy Seed Cake

Ingredients

⅓ cup poppy seeds
¼ cup milk
185 g butter
1 cup caster sugar
3 eggs
1 cup plain flour
1½ cups self-raising flour

½ cup fresh orange juice

Syrup
½ cup caster sugar
1 cup fresh orange juice

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 170°C and grease and line a 22 cm cake tin.
  2. Combine poppy seeds and milk and set aside for 20 minutes.
  3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time while continuing to beat.
  4. Fold in flours, juice and poppy seed mixture and pour mixture into prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 1 hour. Stand cake for 5 minutes.
  6. Syrup: Combine ingredients over low heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes.
  7. Pour hot syrup over hot cake.
