My Creative Space...

It was international Women's day the other day and I lucky enough to enjoy a few morning gatherings and a wonderfully organised movie screening with lots of other women.

I enjoyed a few hours of being a woman, not just a mum, not just a partner, but a woman.

Today I am celebrating creativity around me.


The henna tattoo on my hand was a creation by a talented woman from India


the fabric covered canvas I made so I can store my beautiful brooches created by lots of other wonderfully creative and talented women


the lovely family portrait by the little guy framed and admired


the magic of liquid chalk for drawing on the window and practising our school words
 

and of course the gorgeous girls in the background creating what they do best... a bit of a mess.

    Lovely post Cathie! Never heard of liquid chalk but then my kids aren't that small anymore. Must be great drawing on windows. I used to frame a lot of their first drawn pictures too. I still have those drawings in a box on the attic, memories of a wonderful time when they were still little. Next week is 'mondial week' in my sons school and Henna is on the program too. Maybe a women's thing but the boys will experience it too, along with cooking and dancing and... it's destined to be a great schoolweek!

    henna tattoos are the best invention - yours looks divive - did my kids some mehndi weeks ago - had a great time - very relaxing, creative and they had to sit still until it dried (miracle).

Honey Jumbles

I just realised that I have been using honey and spices in alot of things lately, I guess it's because it's winter and the smells and tastes make you feel warm and sweet. Have been thinking about making Honey Jumbles for a while and saw them over at Liss's the other day and definitely had to try them as they look and believe me they smell soooo good!  My critics advise me they are delicious and very moreish. Honey Jumbles ingredients 90g butter 3/4 cup honey 2 cups plain flour 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 1/2 teaspoons mixed spice 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 2 tablespoons milk   icing 1 egg white 1 1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted vanilla extract  strawberry paste Method Place butter and honey in a saucepan and slowly bring to the boil over a low heat. Simmer for a few minutes, then allow to cool for about 15 minutes Sift flour, bicarbonate of soda and spices and add to butter mixture, gently stir in milk.  A...

Berrylicious ice cream recipe and a giveaway for you

As the weather warms up the kids tend to ask for something cold and yummy to enjoy after school. Reading the ingredients labels on ice cream I feel at a loss trying to figure out what all those numbers mean, I mean really, it’s just ice cream, how many ingredients need to be in there after all. I love to try and make everything from scratch so why not ice cream, well I had a go and using an ice cream maker made it really quick and easy. Here’s a basic recipe I made using a Cusinart ice cream maker Berrylicious ice cream Makes 1 litre Ingredients     ¾ cup whole milk   ½ cup sugar or honey if you prefer 1½ cups cream 150grams mixed berries, thawed and slightly mashed with a fork Method U sing a mixer or hand whisk, mix milk and sugar in a bowl for a few minutes until sugar has dissolved   Add cream and mix until combined Turn the machine on and pour the mixture into freezer bowl, and let it mix until thickened, about 25 minut...
