Yum that cake looks so good. My kids still have another week off school (3 weeks in total) I hope I can last another week. The sun is so beautiful in Melbourne today isn't it xo
Funny, I wanted to bake with the kids today too, I had a recipe ready and all. Put it to them this morning, with the 'bribe' of being able to take their fresh made cookies for morning tea on the planned bike ride.
Got a 'no thanks mum' from both, then a 'lets take apart the pasta maker' from the youngest and 'can I do a science experiment?' from the eldest.
I am sooooo not a science gal, or a take-it-apart-and-see-how-it-works gal, baking is my thing. I just had to have a secret laugh and sigh with the hubby, then dismantling and a-sciencing we went.
Both boys are well aware there are plenty of other goodies in the freezer for their morning tea picnic.
Isn't it just the loveliest day? The fog this morning was fun for the kids (and me) and now the sunshine! We have spent it at Heide and then a quick visit to the zoo (madhouse!) .. now home. You have me drooling, it's quite unseemly.
Glad you have some lovely winter weather for your last day of holidays. It's still freezing in Sydney. I really should put the oven on and bake something to keep us warm inside and out!
oh that cake is so nice. baking is something i like to do when i'm stressed. i find mixing and measuring and cracking eggs strangely therapeutic. hope you're enjoying fresh cake! x
How was the first day back in school, sweet Cathie. And how was it for you? Lots of love for the new week my friend. We are painting, drawing, baking and knitting too this Summer holiday o xx o
I have been extremely lucky with blog giveaways lately and have won an extremely beautiful pack from the gorgeous and lovely Liesa at Handmade Heaven and a very supercute Bugga Bugs giveaway hosted by the very, very talented Alicia at The Red Deer , so a very BIG thank you ladies! If you haven't visited them yet, why don't you pop by for a visit and enjoy their fabulous blogs! So to give back to the good Karma giveaway fund, I visited a cake decorating store for some inspiration...and I came out with a box full of cupcake papers, that's about 600 or more. I think I was in that shop for a good 45 minutes, I am not joking, it's like a kid in a candy store...or a fabric store for my lovely sew crafty blog friends :) Now all you have to do is leave a comment, nothing much, just a hello or share a joke. I'll leave it open till midnight Saturday the 31st of October and also the end of Blogtoberfest and draw a winner from a hat or bowl or bag and announce it on Sunday...
I just realised that I have been using honey and spices in alot of things lately, I guess it's because it's winter and the smells and tastes make you feel warm and sweet. Have been thinking about making Honey Jumbles for a while and saw them over at Liss's the other day and definitely had to try them as they look and believe me they smell soooo good! My critics advise me they are delicious and very moreish. Honey Jumbles ingredients 90g butter 3/4 cup honey 2 cups plain flour 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 1/2 teaspoons mixed spice 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 2 tablespoons milk icing 1 egg white 1 1/2 cups icing sugar, sifted vanilla extract strawberry paste Method Place butter and honey in a saucepan and slowly bring to the boil over a low heat. Simmer for a few minutes, then allow to cool for about 15 minutes Sift flour, bicarbonate of soda and spices and add to butter mixture, gently stir in milk. A...
As the weather warms up the kids tend to ask for something cold and yummy to enjoy after school. Reading the ingredients labels on ice cream I feel at a loss trying to figure out what all those numbers mean, I mean really, it’s just ice cream, how many ingredients need to be in there after all. I love to try and make everything from scratch so why not ice cream, well I had a go and using an ice cream maker made it really quick and easy. Here’s a basic recipe I made using a Cusinart ice cream maker Berrylicious ice cream Makes 1 litre Ingredients ¾ cup whole milk ½ cup sugar or honey if you prefer 1½ cups cream 150grams mixed berries, thawed and slightly mashed with a fork Method U sing a mixer or hand whisk, mix milk and sugar in a bowl for a few minutes until sugar has dissolved Add cream and mix until combined Turn the machine on and pour the mixture into freezer bowl, and let it mix until thickened, about 25 minut...
