Fruit & Nut Granola
A few weeks ago we dehydrated some fruit, pears, bananas and strawberries and I added them all to our Granola mix.
It's all gone and the kids are asking for more.
Fruit & Nut Granola
Ingredients
- 5 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup wheat germ
- 1 cup bran
- ½ cup shredded coconut
- 1 cup raw sunflower seeds
- 2 cups flaked almonds
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1 cup honey
- ½ cup olive oil
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 1 ½ cups sultanas/raisins
- Dried fruit of your choice, banana, pear, apple, mango, papaya, paw paw, cranberries etc
Method
- Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan
- Combine all ingredients except dried fruit in a bowl and mix to coat
- Spread onto a greased baking tray and bake for 30 minutes whilst stirring every 10 minutes
- Mix in fruit, allow to cool and store in an airtight jar
You should try it, it's easy and healthy and gives you and the family something different for breakfast or even for an after school snack.

ReplyDeleteYum Cathie! I make a very similar mix myself which I just cannot live without, with fresh fruit and yoghurt...followed by 1 piece of vegemite toast and black tea. It is a ritual that I feel incomplete without!
ReplyDeleteOh yum! You make healthy food look so delicious :) I am a cereal/mueseli girl at breakfast time. Pancakes on weekends & bacon & eggs if I can bothered some week days :) Breakfast is one of my favourite meals to eat out at cafes/restaurants :)

THat looks really tasty - I have something similar with yogurt. Nice and filling but not too heavy.

Oh yum, we usually have muesli au naturel, because I'm lazy! I'd love to try this recipe though - did you do the fruit in a dehydrator?
ReplyDeleteYum yum! I have eggs most often, with berries on the side. I have made a delicious no-grain granola (is that still a GRAN-ola, with no grain?) but my hubby takes it to work to scoff there. Must make more and hide it....

We have so many different things for breakfast, cereal, porridge, fruit ad yoghurt, eggs on toast, mushies on toast, scrambled eggs in a mountian bread wrap. Can you tell we get bored quickly lol The last two weeks I have been having a green smoothie for breakfast, just experimenting (and trying to be extra healthy :)) Grade 2 starts Friday for us eek miss my girl already :( GOod luck getting back into the swing of things x

ReplyDeleteHI Cathie, we're very fond of granola here too, often with organic apricots and squiggly dates. Might have to look into dehydrating fruit though. Otherwise, it's toast and marmalade. Nice to meet you by the way!
ReplyDeleteIs the oven setting the lowest on the oven to dehydrate? I googled the 160 c to convert to Fahrenheit and it said 360. Just wanted to check before making this recipe.
